where herbert? graveyard keeper 2: Location Guide

Herbert is at the Crossroads after the opening retreat. Later, after you give him three Faith, his main quest conversations take place at the Barracks. The correct location depends on how far you are in his questline.

Herbert’s early location: the Crossroads

After the opening retreat, Herbert waits at the Crossroads. His independent requests begin after you show him the first Burial Certificate.

For the Grave Expectations quest, improve the graveyard until its displayed quality reaches at least 10, then return to Herbert at the Crossroads. Choose “The graveyard is looking better”, followed by “Encourage the man...”

After this conversation, Herbert asks for three Faith. Return to him at the Crossroads with three actual Faith items in your inventory and choose “Give Faith.”

If the option is missing, make sure you have completed the graveyard report and are carrying three Faith. Church quality and graveyard quality do not replace the Faith items.

When Herbert is at the Barracks

After you give Herbert three Faith, the Barracks become accessible. His next preparation tasks take place there, including:

• Reporting at least 12 military strength
• Delivering the Magic bell
• Beginning the counterattack preparations
• Continuing later military quests

For the military-strength objective, speak with Herbert in the Barracks and choose “We’re ready.” The Magic bell is also delivered there through the “The Bell” conversation.

If Herbert does not accept the strength report, check that the mercenaries have been paid and that your defenses have actually been prepared. Having the materials in your inventory is not enough.

Herbert during the battle route

After completing both the military-strength report and the bell delivery, Herbert’s “Everything seems ready...” conversation sends you toward the first counterattack. The battle begins at the guard post outside the Barracks.

After winning the first battle and securing the route to the port, finish Herbert’s victory conversation. The follow-up Our Military Plan conversation is also started by speaking with Herbert at the Barracks.

Later military branches continue to use the Barracks as Herbert’s meeting location, including:

• Hope It Doesn’t go South
• Street Battles
• Fight for the Town
• Water Locked
• Steamy Royal
• Dirt Rights
• Still Standing on Stilts

For these quests, check the new battle markers and outposts described by the current objective, but return to Herbert at the Barracks when the quest specifically directs you to him.

Herbert’s election-security location

After Election Fever, visit Herbert in the Barracks and choose “About Security measures.” This conversation requires 55 reputation with Herbert.

A second topic, “Election security,” requires 60 reputation with Herbert. Completing it marks Herbert’s security branch ready, but the election also requires Linda’s voting-site branch and Gunter’s campaign branch to be ready.

If Herbert’s dialogue is unavailable

Check the following before searching another location:

1. Confirm that you completed the previous Herbert conversation.
2. Check whether the current objective sends you to the Crossroads or the Barracks.
3. For the graveyard request, verify that the displayed graveyard total is at least 10.
4. For the Faith request, carry three Faith items.
5. For the military report, confirm that the mercenaries are paid and the defenses are prepared.
6. For the bell request, bring the finished Magic bell to the Barracks.

In short, look for Herbert at the Crossroads during his early requests and at the Barracks after the Faith hand-in and throughout his later military and election quests.
